Philosophy of Maria Montessori

„The child is both a hope and a promise for mankind“.

The philosophy of Maria Montessori is a holistic and child-centered approach to education that emphasizes independence, freedom within limits, and respect for a child’s natural psychological, physical, and social development. It is rooted in the belief that children are naturally curious and capable learners who thrive in an environment that encourages exploration and supports their individual growth.

Montessori believed that respect is the foundation of all learning. Children are viewed as capable individuals who deserve to be treated with dignity and allowed to make choices.

„Help Me to Help Myself“. – This is a core principle of Maria Montessori’s educational philosophy.

Children, especially between birth and age 6, have an extraordinary capacity to absorb knowledge from their environment simply through living and experiencing. An inner driving force leads them towards a form of self-awareness. They absorb language, culture, and skills without formal teaching, much like a sponge. This is why the Montessori method empowers children to select their own activities, take initiative, and learn through their own mistakes.

Montessori education is not about filling a child with information, but awakening their inner potential and nurturing a lifelong love for learning.

„Education is a natural process carried out by the child and is not acquired by listening to words but by experiences in the environment“. – Maria Montessori.
